Residential Service Requirements
If you are a new customer, the following information is required to establish service(s) with Erwin Utilities.
Service Address
The full address of the location where you wish to establish service(s). This will determine which Erwin Utilities services are available.
Proof of Residency
If you are renting, this could include a rent receipt or lease agreement. For homeowners, this could be include a settlement statement.
Personal Identification
Your full Social Security Number is required for a deposit credit check. A current drivers license or government-issued ID is also required.
Other Important Information
In addition to the requirements outlined above, below is some additional information about establishing services with Erwin Utilities.
- All residential customers are required to sign an application form for all utility services.
- All past due amounts must be paid in full.
- If required, a deposit can range from $0 to $350 for residential services. The amount of the deposit will be determined by the potential credit risk of the customer. To assess this risk, a soft credit check will be run on all new applicants. Customers who do not provide a social security number will be charged the maximum deposit.
- A connection fee will be charged for a new customer or existing customers for all services at a new location.

Service rates are determined by many factors, including total amount used, total monthly fuel cost for electric rates, and operational costs. Click below to see our most current residential rate schedules for our services.
Additional Services for Residential Customers
Outdoor Lighting
Security lights, parking lot lights, and flood lights can be installed at the customer’s request. The monthly charge includes installation, normal maintenance and power and depends on the light size and whether a transformer or pole is needed just for the light. For more information about outdoor lighting, please call or email customer service.
Water Laboratory Testing
Bacteriological testing of privately owned well and spring water sources has been suspended until further notice. Water testing can be performed by Waypoint Analytical at 2109 W. Market St., Suite 155, in Johnson City. Contact 901-271-5280 for more information.
